Goals and Resolution: Checkin 1

  • Posted on January 16, 2012 at 10:00 am
This entry is part 2 of 6 in the series Goals and Resolutions 2012

No, you haven’t lost your mind. Our family is down to one computer, and I was hoping to have mine fixed by now. Unfortunately, laptops are not too fond of mac & beef, so repair has been agonizingly slow. And when I only have a few minutes in an uncomfy chair right before bedtime, expounding upon the subject at hand is easily delayed/dismissed. I’m backdating the entries for the days they *should* have been published. Thanks for joining my time-travel team <3

So how am I doing, two weeks after I set myself up?

Resolution: Get Healthy. Goals: Diet and exercise

I’m still fighting the urge to eat potato chips and cottage cheese for breakfast, but not all that often. These days I’m fighting the urge for crunchy food with a small handful of mixed nuts. And I’ve pinpointed “eating more veggies” as a designated target while my body adjusts.

I’m not working out every day, but I’m making a conscious effort to move more than I was. The scale has moved a bit, but it’s too early to tell if it was water weight.

Resolution: Budget. Goals: Develop side business, track spending

I’ve already totally blown the “keep track of money” part. I’ll try to pick it up again at the next payday.

My work on the side business has dealt mostly with focus. Am I going to design? host? code? troubleshoot? (Most likely? Troubleshoot.) How much do I charge?(believe it or not, that *has* been a problem in the past)

30 day challenge resolution: Uncluttering

Not going according to schedule. At all. After pondering on my “moderate failure” post from Friday, I had a realization.

I’m ready to let go of these things, but I’m not necessarily ready for what (if anything) is going to replace them. And to be completely honest, I’ll probably need some time and help processing that little tidbit.

And that’s all the news that’s fit to print right now about my resolutions.

Still here (in case you were worried)

Although I live in the tornado’s designated target (*ahem* it’s a manufactured home), we escaped last nights high winds with nothing more than some blown leaves and tree damage in our “natural areas”.

Wait, let me guess. You want pictures, right? Of COURSE you do!

But I don’t have any yet. I’m going to finish my coffee first.

Just the Kick in the Pants I needed

Monday night, I took advantage of my small-town library. (I’m all about the free events, y’all.) After my mile-long walk of shame at lunchtime, there was no way I was going to jack this up. I checked the library’s webpage, went back and pulled the newspaper article, confirmed that I’d written the correct information in my planner, and arrived five minutes early (and also? Making me the first to arrive).

Jackie Stanley, the CEO (Chief Encouragement Officer) was at the Kernersville Library with her new book, Jackie Stanley’s Dictionary of Encouragement. She was engaging, articulate, and my favorite kind of motivational: blunt, intense, and to the point.

She spoke a bit about how she went from Family Law to CEO, and then began her main message: You are so much more than what happens to you. You’re not the breakup – the breakup is happening to you. It sucks, it’s difficult, but it is NOT YOU.

It’s becoming easier for me to take “global” messages like her presentation and wrap them around my situation – specifically to take more of an outside view of My Sainted Mama’s moments. They’re painful, but they’re honestly and sincerely not about me. I just happen to be her designated target.
