I made hot cocoa mix!

  • Posted on December 14, 2011 at 10:00 am

First we need to talk about how important it is to clean off the counter before you start. That way, it won’t look like this:

The recipe I started with belongs to Little Birdie Secrets, but I made one crucial addition:

a small box of chocolate cook & serve pudding. It helps give that “real hot chocolate” mouthfeel that is so lacking in other mixes. You’re pouring boiling water into this mix – while it cools, the pudding is “cooking”. Just give it a stir before you drink it.

And I made the decision to round it all off. None of that hanky panky with 3/4 C here and there. I can’t tell the difference (and I dare you to tell me different :P )

And and? I used peppermint mocha creamer. It was good, but not nearly “minty” enough for me. Next time I’ll just wield more chocolate and save the mint for mint choc ice cream <3.

I made some critical judgement errors doing this. First: my largest "mixing" bowl is SO not big enough for this. I had to use the popcorn bowl.

(Okay, so the popcorn bowl IS a mixing bowl. Shush. The boys will NOT let you say that it's a mixing bowl. It's for popcorn. POPCORN. Got it?)

Error number two: For some reason I had it in my head that the recipe only made two quart jars of powder.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Newp. Not a chance. Not even close. Clearly I was not thinking. Anything that takes an entire box of powdered milk is going to make more than two quarts of powder. Derp. I had to look into the computer’s history – the recipe that makes two quart jars of powder is also the one I discarded as overly fussy. (It called for powdered sugar, cocoa powder, AND powdered chocolate milk mix. Seriously.)

(But you know now I want to try that recipe and see if it’s better than this one, right? TRY THEM AAAALLLL!)

Anyways….make this and for heaven’s sake DO NOT share it with the people you work with. Then EVERYONE will want a jar.

(Does the addition of one ingredient mean I can make it mine all mine? GONNA ANYWAY CUZ THAT IS HOW I ROLL)

Em’s SuperAwesome Hot Cocoa Mix

10 cups dry milk powder
5 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups powdered non-dairy creamer
1 small box chocolate cook & serve pudding

A word of advice: pour slowly – the powdered ingredients will poof up right in your face if you don’t. Stir everything until well-mixed. Fill every quart jar in the house, a gallon bag or three…whatever trips your trigger.

Progress on the room

Oh look, it’s not a tweet!!!

This is the room, halfway done. You won’t be seeing pictures of the before because…

eew. eew eew eew eew eew.
because I didn’t TAKE any pictures of a fifteen-year old CARPET for pete’s sake what is WRONG with you people??!!??

But tonight, my friends…tonight I have a real treat for you.

The Artist in the Room

Joe insisted on modelling for us. But if you look to the left of the picture, you’ll notice something that looks…not quite right.

The Artist and his Handiwork

Like any responsible adult would, I left the paint can open so that last little drop could dry out and I could toss the can in the trash. And then I went to work.

How stupid of me.

What I *should* have done was toss the paint supplies in the back of the truck and let them bake six miles away from home, in the bright sunshine.

Safe from six year old boys who want to HELP YOU MOMMY! and beam up at you with pride.

Look at that face. Just LOOK at it! Isn’t that the sweetest mix of nonchalant “I know I’m busted but I’m still CUTE!!!” you’ve ever seen?

Yeah.

And then Daniel wanted to get in on the photo-taking action. He’s so THRILLED with the camera in his DSi that I’m seriously contemplating getting him a point & shoot for his next birthday.

He opened it up, got the stylus ready to hit the “capture” button….

and this happened…

The End of the Artist.

The End.
