Why do I blog? Yes, it’s a meme, but I’m going to run my mouth a bit more than the others did.
At no point did I ever think this little exercise in writing would turn out to be my Magnum Opus, my life’s great whine record. This is the first (and only) journal I’ve ever written regularly in. Really. Truly. In my entire life. Neither did I expect anyone to read me and my whining writing, much less leave commentary.
This blog was born out of my need to get it all out. I was reeling from the breakup, the move back in with my folks, PPD, and I sat in front of the computer for hours. Writing, gaming, reading, chatting, ANYTHING to keep my (fat) ass in that chair and away from any interaction with another human being face to face. I planned my grocery trips for the times when the only people in the store were me and the employees.
As you can see, the “TIME CAVE” acronym applies as a phrase for me, not necessarily as the separately defined letters.
With the passing of time, a lot of these things have faded from screaming issues to a gentle throbbing ache every now and then. I found other bloggers who felt the way I did at the time, as well as message boards.
Part of the meme is to pick a post that is representative of you. The downside of being such a changeling throughout the years is that there really ISN’T one single post that I can say hit *all* of me. Mea culpa, but I just can’t do it.
I’m tucking the rest of the meme (the massive link-love directory) behind the “more” tag. My sincere apologies to those who would prefer to not read and/or click through. Also? Please tag yourselves because I’d rather pick your nose than pick you to make an obligatory post.

I can see that, like me, you felt a little ambivalent about both the amount of copy that comes with this meme, and the “requirement” to tag others with it. Generally speaking I like memes — they give me something to think and blog about when inspiration’s a bit thin on the ground — but to bring true delight into my life, they have to be easy to maintain, and this one, with its directory “master list” and the originator’s request to regularly update one’s own post with the additions made to it — well, it’s too much like hard work for me. I shan’t be doing that.
I was also unsure about tagging others with this high-maintenance meme, but I didn’t want to let down the person who tagged me with it — it would have seemed rude to ignore their kind attention — and I suspect you felt the same when you got the pingback from my post which brought it to your notice (before I got round to letting you know personally, for which: my apologies). So thank you for participating — and I don’t blame you for not “manually” passing it on! I probably should have done the same: just published it and let the Blogosphere decide whence it traveled from there. Ah well. All part of the blogging experience …
Bob, thank you so much for the tag. I don’t mind the “high maintenance” aspect of it, truly – but I wonder if there is a way to maintain the list without looking like a blog scraping post. (But? That’s completely outside the line of “things I need to spend brainspace on”.)
