Stop! Thief!

While performing some rather inane blogosphere tasks today, I noticed that I’ve been the victim of a scraping, and more than once it would seem.

Em? What’s a scraping?
It’s when someone steals your content and posts it on their site – regardless of permissions. Plagarism, pure and simple.

I suppose I should be grateful that this person half-assed credited me with my own writing. I suppose I should be happy that they DID link to the post that they scraped.

Uhm, NO. I don’t think so. Scrapers are NOT going to get money from my work, or worse – have someone thinking that *I* support their site. So, what’s a girl to do? There’s no contact information readily available on the sites, leaving a comment on their blog will most likely be useless (ASSuming comentary is allowed), how how HOW am I going to draw the line.

Fortunately, there are answers. Jonathan Bailey has a quite wonderful resource blog helpfully named Plagiarism Today, which details handling the issue of plagiarism from discovery to knowing when to let it go and move on. I’ve created my “legal” website address, and have launched my trademark brutally straightforward emails.

I know, shame on me for not giving a better synopsis of Jonathan’s site. It’s chock full of information that you might possibly need, and each situation is different. So go read it. Read it now. Don’t let them take your work.

GO READ IT.
