So I’m going through the kid’s software collection

The word of the day is “scratched”.

as in “I have hundreds of dollars worth of software that is quite possibly inoperable”.

WHY oh WHY did I not image them and stick ‘em on the spare hard drive??!!?? Then I could burn a backup copy whenever I needed one.

We’re going through the stack now. The boys are enjoying the games that actually work, and I’m biting my nails, hoping and praying that the vast majority actually work.

AAARRRGGGHHH!

maybe you can find that stuff that fills in and repairs the CDs…. I hope you can salvage them.

Heh. Some of the scratches are from where Joe put a CD in the scratch-remover machine. Without the buffing pads.

      yeaaaaaaaaah. They’re toast.

Been there, done that. It’s worse when it’s multiple copies of the OS that you need to install.

Got some of those too. After discovering the damage to their CDs, I started going through my own collection. Fortunately, they haven’t discovered the secret stash.

What’s killing me right now is the damage done to our homeschooling “skills test” software. It makes me want to cry.

Ah, the joy of homeschooling. My 12-year-old stepson doesn’t like to read, so we spent a good amount of money on Switched-On Schoolhouse for him to fail most of it because he went straight to the testing without reading the assignment. Go figure. Hopefully, my 2-year-old daughter (who already knows how to work the DVD player, BTW) will be more computer-savvy and self-directed.

We tried SOS and found it horribly boring. Excruciatingly so. I wish K12 stand-alone weren’t so expensive (for high school it costs more per subject than my private college tuition!!!!!)
