I think I’m in love with your new endeavor, We101. I’d love to join it, but, it highlights a perpetual dilemma – do I join the Winston bloggers, or the Greensboro ones?
As of right now, I don’t know of any other bloggers in Kernersville (and if you ARE in Kville, speak up!) but since I’ve been spending equal time in both cities here lately, I’d like to know where to hang my hat.
Thanks everso!
Hi! I found you through Esbee (LiF). I live very near K’ville. Our address is actually W-S, but we live near Union Cross Road. Thought I’d say hi, neighbor!
Hi neighbor! I’m so glad to meet you!
Hi Emily,
Ain’t love grand! The whole concept of We101 was to bring a sense of place to the cacophony of blogs that might otherswise be disperate islands in the wilderness. It was inspired the my heros, the bloggers of Greensboro who, as a group, provide insightful information and opinion about our city.
In trying to think about how people might identify place, I recognized that a city is not always the most relevant defining description — but it usually is. To compensate for the shortcomings of the city-as-place structure, I’m doing two things. First, to allow a closer look into smaller surrounding communities or even neighborhoods, listings on We101 accomodate “neighborhood tags,” where one can further describe where they live. Most people, so far, seem content to let their blog be indentified with a city and are not tagging their listings with additional place identifiers. But evenentually, We101 will allow one to drill down further from a particular city to smaller cities nearby, suburbs and neighborhoods based on the neighborhood tags. The benefit of identifying your blog with a larger nearby place is that you’ll likely be seen by a larger audience.
The second issue is addressing the fact that sometimes people define a place as something larger than a city — like RTP or The Triad. It is possible that I can define places that encompass multiple cities so that a user can view blogs from a wider view and that will likely come.
The starting point though is the blog indentified with a city — that’s the most useful. So, I hope you’ll add your blog. Associate it with the city you think is most applicable and tag it with tags to further define your place.
Thanks again for the love.

(PS Medication for a summer cold and sore back have me a little slow on the keyboard, please excuse the typos.)
Yikes!
Hi,
I wrote a multi-paragraph comment, but it doesn’t seem to have been published.
Anyway, thanks for your kind words. I hope you’ll add your blog to either Greensboro or Wintson and tag it with Kernersville.

Roch, I have the comments set for admin approval if it’s an unrecognized commenter, and then I went out of town for a few days. I did join WE101 under Winston.
Thanks for stopping by!
