Image Strategery

gia1.jpgToday’s project is to complete the image work for my Supah Secret Single Mom’s board. (Mine as in I work with, for, and host. Not mine as in ownership. I’m just sayin’.) To be honest, I have absolutely no idea where that image was found on the ‘net. But it’s been my starting point throughout the design process. I keep wanting to add in a toolbox, lawnmower, a few more kids, a stack of textbooks, some musical instruments…my problem is truly knowing where to stop. (Maybe with a blazing-on-fire marriage certificate).

It took me the longest time to make some decisions with direction. Our board has been through so much just to exist, and then to exist because our marriages tanked….it’s difficult to portray that in a positive light while still acknowledging our different places on that path. Unfortunately, not everyone in the Parenting Message Board World understands the “post around 1/3 of all the details” rule, ASSumes that you just haven’t tried enough, blahblahblah ad nauseum. The absolute most offensive thing I think I’ve ever read was an email forward that some clueless well-meaning….person… posted. It was chock full of “I’m gonna SAVE muh mawwidge by PRAYIN!!!” And of course I replied “All the prayer on the planet is not going to make my ex a responsible adult; a man who can communicate without verbal abuse; a man who will be honest.”

Whoa, sorry. *tosses the train back on the track*

Design has blipped in and out of my career as I learn more and more about image creation and manipulation. Ever the literalist, I reasoned that since I don’t draw all that well I should probably pursue a different career path. (Yeah, I know. Hush.) Now the children are older (and therefore not quite SO high-maintenance) and I’m exploring/expanding my abilities. Dunno quite where I’m going with it yet, but I’m sure it’ll be fun getting there!
