An Open Letter to High Point Regional Hospital:

Dear Mr. Miller and Mr. Marsh:

Stepped in it good this time didn’t you? I’m not buying any of the crap you’re spewing, so maybe you need to just hush. And? Step off. All you’re doing is making it worse. (At least, you are in my eyes. And as a potential patient, I matter, right? Right.)

No, I take that back. FIRST, you need to make a public apology to the citizens of Kernersville. (And if you could include the sentence “I was a presumptive jackass”, it would tickle me to the core. But I digress.) THEN you need to step off.

I heard your hospital’s radio ad talking about a woman’s birth experience. I want you to know it made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

In 2003, I was painfully, hugely pregnant. After the stress of moving back to NC and the breakup I was looking for low-key maternity care – specifically a midwife. I toured the Carolina Birth Center and was impressed with the staff and the facilities. THEN I toured your hospital since it was (at that time) the backup facility for CBC.

When I went into labor with Joseph at 11PM, I rode in the backseat of my doula’s truck to Greensboro.

For those not in the region: It’s 20 miles from my house to The Women’s Hospital of Greensboro, 14 miles to HPRH, and 10 miles to Forsyth Medical Center. Give or take a mile or two.

Do I need to make it any clearer? I won’t darken the door of your hospital, even if it’s just as convenient as the others. OR your new fitness center in town.

Vituperatively yours,

Emily
