My 7 in ’07

Resolution. Such a heavy word for something the entire world blithely blurts out after an all-night holiday season capping party and then whines and whinges their way out of almost immediately. Should I use such a word to describe these things on what is basically my colossal to-do list? Dare I? Perhaps I should use another word, such as “goals”. Regardless of the descriptive (and possibly reified) word used, here they are:

When I began school this time around, I transferred in my credits from FTCC. The good news is that the time I spent there didn’t go completely to waste; it enabled me to enroll as a sophomore. Unfortunately, when I was at FTCC, I was decidedly NOT the best of students…I transferred in a 2.20 GPA. My goal, therefore is to bring my GPA up to 3.0 or higher this year.

I’ve decided that I’m sick of taking blood pressure drugs on a daily basis. My Dr. says if I lose weight my bp SHOULD come down. I also need to decide if I’m through having babies since I’m not gettin’ any younger. It’s already clichéd, so let’s tack on some healthy living stuff: Exercise more. (Honestly, that shouldn’t be an issue with the changes I’m making in my schedule and with my access to “fitness centers”.)

Somewhat along the same lines, I’d like to take instruction in tai chi. I have a video that I occasionally work through, but I also need to…

Get out of the house and into some new/different social situations. I have finally made some IRL friends – it’s time to hang out with them here and there in a decidedly non-mommy environment. And while it’s true that I only had one date in 2006, I hold fast to the belief that I’ll not only have dates but will find a solid relationship in the coming year.

Better blog posts! I promise I really am capable of writing more than a blurt here and there. What happens is – I mull over an idea in my mind and let it simmer during the day, but then forget about it in the whole “mommy” thing. Yeah, I know – it’s an excuse but it’s one I’m trotting out anyway. I do have a list of things I’ve wanted to address for a while, but paranoia kept me from coming close to those subjects.

A bit of frivolity: I need to work up my yarn stash. I keep saying that I’m sick of looking at all this yarn and various unfinished projects, yet never lay hands on them. I want to learn to knit continental style and crochet left-handed since too much crochet aggravates the tendons in my right hand (old repetitive motion injury – NOT!!!! carpal tunnel).

And last though most certainly not least – I want to travel more with the kids. Though they’re not quite old enough to appreciate the journey in and of itself, the boys need to hike up some mountains and splash in some oceans. Also? Primitive camping means Alannah can’t spend hours on the phone or glued to the TV. heh.

There you have it. Some of these should be obvious (better blog posts), and some of these will require updating every once in a while.
