So I was reading about cold-brewed coffee at Granny’s, and decided to try it. I also decided that I’m absolutely in no way, shape, or form gonna spend $$$$ for the advertised equipment. Yes, I said “advertised”. The article was a very thinly veiled advert for this.
The instructions are basically to mix one pound of coffee with 9 cups of water and let it steep overnight, then drain off the water. No problem!
1 lb coffee $2.00 at walmart (I’m not buying the good stuff for this)
9 C water FREE (filtered well water)
1 gal pitcher $2.00 at walmart (but we already had it, so this really isn’t $$ spent on the experiment)
filter Dunno how much I used, but I made a bag out of unbleached muslin $0.45/yd from Walmart
Put the coffee in the muslin bag and draw the string, put the bag inside the pitcher, pour the water over the bag and let it steep overnight. Next morning, pull the bag out and place in a colander/bowl to drain. Mix 1 part concentrate to 3 parts water and enjoy!
This WILL be my source of coffee forevermore. It’s smooth, with no bitterness – even WITH using the cheep stuff.
