Vision–the ability to see

How do you give someone the ability to understand that the way they look at EVERYTHING is skewed so badly that it has absolutely no bearing on reality?
It’s a veritable litany: “I suck. I’m fat. I’m lazy. I’m stupid. I hate myself. I’m a lousy mom. I can’t do ANYTHING right.” Shockingly enough, the kid is only 20 (albeit with some pretty major issues). And the self-defeating circular logic she uses amazes me. Every time it starts, I get this picture in my head of the stairwell in The Matrix. Simplistic, yet nauseating and dangerous.

It worries me.

I go from wanting to open her skull and drip some positive thoughts directly onto her brain to wanting to hug and love her, to wanting to stand behind her with a cattle prod, yelling. “No negative thoughts allowed! *bZZt* Stop being so hard-headed! *bZZt*”

You get the general idea.

Hey! I want someone with a cattleprod to stand behind me and train me not to be negative and think depressed thoughts! That’s a great idea LOL
